Reverse Engineered Object: Selection
Reverse Engineered Object: Selection
Next assignment in our Object Design class is "Reverse Engineered Object" this assignment focuses on a chosen object that is made from multiple moving "mechanical" parts.
My first object that I thought about doing is a utility tool. This object is probably the most ambitious out of the 3. Just like many utility tools it starts out as a closed form, for this particular tool when you open the main structure it transforms into a plier. The handles of these pliers contain 9 other tools, 4 small tools in one, and 5 small tools in the other. Several of the screws are welded in therefore I can not take the object apart.
Several of the small tools contain various "knives" So I am not sure if this will count as "weapons" or not, but I will leave it as one of my options since I think the object is quite unique in the way there many tools within the one tool. It also has unique ways to be positioned.
My second object that is seemingly more simple. My Muji balanced mechanical pencil, this is probably my most favourite pencils I've ever used. I'm really into the aesthetics of this pencil, its clean white colour, Silver textured grip and accents, the dense weight it has compared to normal pencils, and the unique component it has at the end that's able to be changed and indicate what type of graphite (lead) is being used. (HB, B, F, H, 2H, 3H) The pencil can be taken apart into 6 different components.
If this is object is too simple or not enough for the project, I am willing to design another pencil or two with the Muji one.
Third object that I thought about using for this project is an old calculator of mine that I used to use in elementary. To my surprise, it still works. The calculator is definitely a lot more simpler and easier than the Utility tool. It has a lot of fun colours, squishy matte buttons, and even a transparent casing.
