PARAMETRIC 3D SURFACE DESIGN: PART 1

Image
PARAMETRIC 3D SURFACE DESIGN: PART 1  Designing a 3D surface design to be printed of in a CNC machine. In all honestly this sounds super exciting and I thought the demos were really cool! Although sitting here thinking about what to do or where to start... I have no idea, maybe lets play around with some definitions till I figure something out and come across something I like. I started with somethings we learnt in class, I thought it might be interesting if I  This didn't really turn out the way I wanted to, I thought it would be more interesting. It was an experimentation for a reason, so onto the next! Voronoi is always interesting and never lets us down so lets try that! I felt like I was on a roll until I couldn't get the Voronoi to extrude in different heights AHH so I tried backing up like usual to see if there was a way, but I ended up doing other things instead. I kinda really got into it so I forgot to take some screenshots :( I still had a lot of trouble beca...

MILESTONE PROJECT: ALGORITHMIC PANELED STRUCTURE - Part 2

Image
Algorithmic Paneled Structure - Part 2 I wasn't actually sure if I was supposed to make a blog post this week but I might as well show my choices and progression for this Milestone project. I wasn't exactly sure if I wanted to create another design or stick to the one I already had. Or I was even thinking about printing my furniture design as a miniature version. (It would be so cute to have a tiny chair!)  But first things first, testing the wall thickness to see if they are reasonable to print.  I fixed up my algorithmic paneled structure to now have 1 definition instead of 7. I had a problem with installing MeshMixer so I had to default to Shapeways to check if my design is good enough to be 3D printed. I made a new geometry to be tiled onto my surface. I wanted to see if I can create a more intricate design instead of a simple Dimond grid.   I really enjoyed the design when there were many tiled around my surface, although I knew this wouldn't work out because ...

MILESTONE PROJECT: ALGORITHMIC PANELED STRUCTURE

Image
Algorithmic Paneled Structure Okay Last week I really struggled on Surface Morph so this time hopefully I can get this right. For this particular project I'm gonna be combining what we've learned from the other assignments, from the first milestone :Laser Cut and the parametric Vessel/Structure. ( Warning: Long blog with many failures, mistakes and restarts. This assignment was for some reason my biggest struggle so far. I think i could've done better if I had more time to experiment more to figure out what I really wanted to achieve) I thought it was going so well but I couldn't get my geometry to tile onto my surface. I believe it was because my surface wasn't really a surface? I tried putting it on a different surface to see if there was a problem with mine. Even changing several radius' if it would even do anything.   It didn't work. TILL I tried a different geometry to be tessellated so I decided to clean my work space and try again, new shapes for su...

Parametric Furniture

Image
Parametric Furniture Okay, the parametric vessel assignment was really fun in the way we can see many different variations from the    I was thinking this looks too much like a wheel chair, or some modern rocking chair and that's what I didn't want.. SOOO lets try something else. ( plus I extruded this on rhino not on grasshopper just for my own reference if I liked the shape..) My next thoughts and idea was a making a chair that kind of has a similar shape to a bean bag, round and plump, but it would still be made out of solid material and for fun, shaped like a cat! I don't know where I'm going with this.... I think I'm a mess hahaha I made a cat with a head band! okay.. okay.. let's back track and try this again... If you can't understand the basics how are you gonna understand the more complicated... This time I started with a sphere. I found this video on YouTube that shows basically what I was looking for of a parametric chair so this helped a lot in...
